| I inherited my love of
animals from my mother. I got my first Gordon in 1972 in Iowa through Bettie
Cott. I then joined the G.S.C.A., began obedience classes and attended my
first dog show. That dog became Kirkaldy's Iowa Summer UD, the first Gordon
bitch to earn the UD title (the fourth Gordon to do so).
Through her I developed an interest in dog shows and field trials and
have been pursuing the elusive Dual Champion title.
I acquired my foundation bitch, Ch. MacLeod's Electra O'Chaparral CD in
1974, bred her to Ch. MacAlder Mr. Chips in 1977 to produce 10 lovely
puppies including Ch. Chaparral Ace's High CD, MH, WDR (The first setter
Master Hunter); Ch. Chaparral Ablaze Aglory CD; Ch. Chaparral Amaretta CD,
JH, WDR (G.S.C.A. Brood Bitch of the Year 1986; Ella herself was top Brood
Bitch in 1980); and Ch. Chaparral Ablebodied. A repeat of that breeding in
1981 produced 10 more wonderful pups, among them Ch. Chaparral Dewarstuff
CDX, JH, WDR, and Ch. Chaparral Dyce On-A-Roll CD. Many outstanding Gordons
have resulted from breeding with these dogs.
Through the dedicated efforts of their owners, Chaparral Gordons have, to
date, earned 1 Dual Championship, 1 Field Championship, 39 Bench
Championships, 1 Utility Dog, 4 Companion Dog Excellent, 27 Companion Dogs,
4 Master Hunter, 9 Senior Hunter, and 31 Junior Titles as well as many
puppy, derby and gun dog points.
I served on the G.S.C.A. Board of Directors from 1981 to 1987. Along with
Janet Kopitch, I initiated field trials with the Southern California
Fanciers in 1984.
I am grateful for the many positive ways that the Gordon Setter has
changed my life. By pursuing the many areas of talent that the Gordon
possesses I have met many wonderful friends.
